Munitionsschlepper fur Karlgerat

 

Munitionsschlepper 13 total, of which 6 are with Batteries 428 and 638, 2 with the Weapon Department (Waffenamt) for 040, 2 converted to 041 and 2 available.

During the testing of the prototype Gerat 040, the plan to have a fully-tracked ammunition-carrier was implemented. The Munitionsschlepper was built on the chassis of a Pz Kpfw IV Ausf D in October 1939. Racks for four 60cm rounds were mounted over the engine compartment. A crane for lifting these heavy rounds was fitted on the front right-hand side of the new superstructure. In 1941, thirteen Pz Kpfw IV Ausf F1 chassis were converted to Munitionsschlepper, in addition to a number of rebuilt Pz Kpfw IV chassis.
